There are a million “mommy blogs” which inspire stay at home mom’s to earn a living while staying home with their children. This is one of the great benefits of the technology we have today. But what about the mommy’s mommies? Tired of corporate life or perhaps banished from corporate life by employers who are looking only to hire the young and tech savvy at a fraction of the living wage you used to earn.
My name is Paula. I work as an office manger responsible for the finances, administrative staff and human resources of a small Midwestern manufacturing company.
I am blessed to be gainfully employed but bored with the inflexibility of working for someone else.
One thing I share with a great number of fellow baby boomers is that I’ll likely not be able to fully retire due to some shortsightedness on my part. As a younger employee I had not planned that my husband would become disabled which reduced us to living on one income and preventing us the luxury of being able to continue making contributions to our retirement plan.
When I talk to others approaching retirement, most of us have dreams of making changes in our lives. We feel young and vibrant. We have honed wonderful skills throughout our lives, not only by practicing our vocations but there are bookkeepers, IRA administrators, grocery store clerks, garbage men, police officers, customer service representatives, stay at home mom’s turned grandmas who are artisans, gourmet cooks, antique specialists and what have you. We have avocations we have also sharpened……and not only do we want to use these talents, we want to transform our lives.
We want to call the shots, organize our time the way we choose. Perhaps we want to integrate our income earning with the other facets of our lives. Maybe we need a supplement to our social security, maybe we have grand aspirations and grand children we want to make time for.
On this site I plan to share what I’ve learned during my 40 plus years in business and what I learn about using the current technology to start and integrate a small business with a balanced life. I hope to grow a community of ideas, support and inspiration to help others transform just as I hope the process transforms me.
Let’s grow new feathers…….then use them to fly.
PS, I think I’d like my feathers to be a bright turquoise with a little soft coral fringe around the edges.
